Virtual
Colonoscopy
Up
until now, colonoscopies have been seen as time-consuming,
uncomfortable and inconvenient procedures. This negative image
has led to 80-85% of the population never getting screened
for colorectal cancer.
It also plays a large part in colorectal cancer being the
second leading cause of cancer death in the United States,
especially since colorectal cancer is 91% curable when detected
early.
V3D-Colon and Virtual Colonoscopy
have the power to change that negative image
forever.
Virtual Colonoscopy as an alternative
to traditional colonoscopy can
dramatically increase a patient's comfort
level, as there is no longer a need for
a long tube to be inserted into the colon.
In a Virtual Colonoscopy, the colon
is inflated with carbon dioxide introduced
through a small rectal tube. Spiral CT Colonography images are then taken in seconds,
yielding one-millimeter resolution in the axial and sub-millimeter
resolution in the plane directions with excellent contrast
between the colon wall and the lumen. Advanced image segmentation
creates a clean 3-D colon reconstruction and computer graphics
enable easy navigation through it.
V3D
comes ready to use as a "turn-key"
Virtual Colonoscopy system. No setup or extensive computer knowledge is
required, although all users must be trained in the use of
V3D. All of the necessary hardware and software needed for
interactive virtual diagnosis-based on supplied CT Colonography or MRI
images-is contained in V3D.
